Stepping Stones, Blue Heron

I painted this panel at the end of June from the LA River access at Los Feliz Golf Course. I liked the reflections of grasses growing in the concrete embankment and determined to do a pattern painting. I posted it on Facebook when I 'finished' it. After some shelf time, I thought the composition needed a focal point to make the pattern composition work better. Each time I paint at the LA River, there is usually bird life, especially in the soft-bottom stretch of river known as the Glendale Narrows. A blue heron was in my reference photos that day, so he became my focal point. July 2016
