15 minutes up the coast from Flatrock is the town of Pouch (pronounced 'pooch') Cove. Unlike Flatrock, Pouch Cove has steep high rock cliffs along its waterline. Their way of launching boats is from long, steep planked ramps that descend the cliffs to tide level. The boats are hauled up and secured to planks. The north boat launch in town had more boats than this south side on the edge of town. When I paint in Newfoundland, I expect to accommodate the windiness of the place: I bungee-cord my supply bag under the tripod, place rocks on the windward paintbox shelf, and hold the easel mast with my left hand angling it with the wind. This was a windy day. A couple hiking along the East Coast Trail stopped by on their way up the hill, finished for the day and staying at a local B&B. By chance I had met them the day before in Flatrock when they finished that stretch of the EC Trail. They were heading back to Cambridge, MA in a few days. Small world. Atlantic Canada August 2017
