"Standing Corn" is a 6" x 6" Oil Study featuring two corn maidens (one carved of antler, the other of shell), a tripod of miniature Indian Corn, and a turquoise bead bracelet suggesting water. Native Americans are often known as "corn people" because of their reliance on corn crops. Corn Maiden figures are frequently the subject of Pueblo art for their role in tradition and folklore of the corn harvest.
This study is one of five paintings from my corn maiden series that will be part of the "Heritage & Community" Exhibit at La Galeria Gitana. Fall 2016
