Catalina Happy Hour

I started this painting at sunset and finished at twilight. I left the lighting transition as is.  Lately I am less hasty to finish a panel; I don't want to lose the immediacy of the plein air experience or its brushwork. While painting these boats I had the memory sensations of being on board riding at anchor. Sailboats under sail, at anchor, or in dry dock all remind me of my sailing background on Long Island Sound.  When I was back home in studio finishing the two panels from Catalina, I was flooded with memories of my upbringing in our sailing family; what treasures!  "Catalina Happy Hour"  10" x 12" Oil on Panel  May 2016
