This is a second Newfoundland plein air painting from my early August trip. I set up just off the front porch (which faces east). It shows the road that drops into Flatrock from the west; the previous painting shows the road below the house that winds along the small bay before it climbs out the northern end. My sister-in-law designs and creates landscape berms as windbreaks and plants them with hardy local flora. She also includes weathered wood retrieved after storms as lawn sculpture. (I see compositions all over her property as evidenced by subsequent paintings.) If I remember correctly, this painting was done in the lee of the house acting as windbreak.
This is part of the Wind Gap Road series. August 2015
