The Sunnynook Bridge is a picturesque pedestrian structure that spans the Los Angeles River in a section known as the Glendale Narrows. Islands of willows and trees are surprisingly tall, and other foliage is lush. I had seen portions of the River from roadways, and wondered about access. There is a book called "Down by the Los Angeles River" by Joe Linton; it is the Friends of the LA River's Official Guide. After browsing the book, there is so much more to explore.
This area is well used: bird watchers, bicyclists, joggers, walkers, artists. It is a bird sanctuary: I've seen Ducks, White Egrets, Blue Herons, and smaller birds. Cooled by a breeze, it's a great place to paint on hot days (and sleeves required on cooler days). This is my first completed painting of the LA River. More to come. October 2013
